Workplace Safety

At the end of each build, a handy method to insure workplace safety is to complete a workplace inspection.  Having a written plan or checklist for tool maintenance insures all the tools are covered and properly maintained.    

                                    

 

Ø Power tools examined for frayed or worn cords.

Ø All tool guards checked for wear and secure attachment.

Ø Fire extinguishers checked to be sure they are in their proper place and fully charged.  

Ø Floors swept and free of dust and debris.

Ø All electrical cords coiled and racked.

Ø All pneumatic cords coiled and racked.

Ø Air compressor drained and clean.

Ø Floor drains and mats are clear and clean.

Ø Drains in sinks, dye-vat, and washing machine run freely.  

Ø All work surfaces wiped down and free of contaminants.

Ø Spray booth is clean and clear of all materials/projects. 

Ø All materials appropriately stored

·      Plywood and lumber stacked or placed back in rack

·      Fabric rolled or folded/sorted into boxes

·      Upholstery materials boxed or rolled as needed

·      Paint/ sealers/ stain cans wiped clean and re-sealed- stored in fire cabinet as necessary

·      Crafts products sorted, re-sealed and put in cabinet

·      Papers and flat goods sorted and filed

·      Hand props (not being used) returned to prop storage

·      Hardware sorted and put back into bins

Ø Leftover products / chemicals / trash disposed of properly.

Ø All light sources are in working condition with functioning lamps/ ballasts.

Ø All filters have been cleaned or replaced.

·      Clothes dryer

·      Spray booth

·      Air filtration system

Ø Dust collection bags/barrels have been emptied

Ø First aid kits inventoried and re-supplied as necessary.

Ø Eye wash stations checked and cleaned.

    A second method of workplace safety compliance is posting emergency information in the prop shop work areas and near each phone.

o      Name

(In case the person is too excited to remember clearly where they are)

o      Name of organization

o      Address of building

o      Floor #

o      Room #
